Robotic Knee Replacement

Medinova Hospital performs robotic-assisted total knee replacement with the ROSA® Knee System. The robot does not operate on its own: it plans and guides, while the surgeon carries out the operation with greater precision than the naked eye and conventional cutting guides allow.

How it works

  1. 3D planning. Before the operation your knee anatomy is modelled in three dimensions, and the ideal size and position of the implant are decided in advance.
  2. Intra-operative guidance. During surgery the system checks the position of the bone in real time and guides the cuts to the planned angles.
  3. Balance check. Ligament balance is measured through the range of motion, so the knee moves as naturally as possible after surgery.

Why it matters

  • Bone cuts are made to the plan, so the implant sits more securely on the bone
  • Less bone and soft-tissue damage — no conventional cutting guides are needed
  • Smaller incisions, less bleeding and less post-operative pain
  • Faster rehabilitation and a shorter hospital stay
  • Accurate implant position means better function and a longer-lasting replacement

Who is it for?

Robotic-assisted knee replacement is considered for patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis whose pain and loss of function no longer respond to medication, injections or physiotherapy — typically pain at rest and at night, difficulty with stairs, walking distance that keeps shrinking, and deformity of the leg axis.

The decision is never made on an X-ray alone: your symptoms, examination, age, activity level and expectations are discussed together before any operation is offered.

Your surgeons

Robotic knee replacement at Medinova is performed by our orthopaedics team: Prof. Dr. İlhan Özkan, whose work is concentrated in sports injuries, arthroscopy and knee surgery, and Prof. Dr. Ş. Öner Şavk. See also our Orthopaedics and Traumatology department.
