Radiology
Radiology in Aydın: MRI, CT, digital X-ray, mammography, ultrasound and Doppler, reported by our own radiologists.
Our radiology department provides MRI, CT, digital X-ray, mammography, ultrasound and Doppler imaging, reported by our own radiologists. Emergency imaging is available 24 hours a day.
Examinations and how to prepare
- Digital X-ray: for bones and the chest; usually no preparation is needed.
- Ultrasound: uses sound waves, no radiation. Abdominal ultrasound usually requires 6–8 hours of fasting; for urinary tract ultrasound you will be asked to arrive with a full bladder.
- Doppler ultrasound: assesses blood flow in the vessels; used for varicose veins and arterial disease.
- Computed tomography (CT): detailed cross-sectional imaging. Contrast studies may require fasting and a kidney function test.
- CT angiography: a CT scan of the arteries after contrast is injected into a vein — the coronary arteries with three-dimensional reconstruction, and the carotid, brain, pulmonary, aortic, renal and limb vessels. No artery is entered. How it differs from catheter angiography →
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): uses a magnetic field, no radiation; preferred for soft tissue, brain and spine.
- Mammography: for breast cancer screening; do not apply deodorant or powder to the underarm or breast beforehand.
Before an MRI, you must tell us about
- A pacemaker, prosthetic heart valve or any implanted device
- Metal implants, plates, screws, clips or shrapnel in the body
- A hearing aid or cochlear implant
- Pregnancy or possible pregnancy
- Claustrophobia
- Kidney failure (important for contrast studies)
Breast screening: breast cancer is highly treatable when found early. Regular mammographic screening is recommended for women from the age of 40. At any age, see a doctor if you notice a lump, nipple retraction or discharge, or dimpling of the skin.
