Our emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and needs no appointment. Because the laboratory and radiology units are in the same building, blood tests and imaging results reach the emergency physician within minutes.
On arrival every patient is assessed by triage, so that the most urgent conditions are seen first rather than in order of arrival.
Come to the emergency department without delay if you have
- Chest pain or tightness, pain spreading to the left arm or jaw
- Sudden shortness of breath or a feeling of suffocation
- Facial drooping, slurred speech, sudden weakness in an arm or leg (signs of stroke)
- Loss of consciousness, fainting or a seizure
- A severe headache that starts suddenly
- Road traffic accident, a fall from height, head injury
- Bleeding that will not stop, a deep cut, a suspected fracture
- High fever together with confusion
- Poisoning, ingestion of medicines or chemicals, insect or snake bite
- Severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting
- Allergic reaction: swelling of the lips or tongue, widespread rash, breathing difficulty
If life is at risk, call 112 rather than driving yourself. Ambulance teams can begin treatment on the way. If you can, bring your identity document, a list of your medicines and any previous test results.
