Cardiovascular surgery treats disease of the heart, the aorta and the arteries and veins of the body — from varicose veins to coronary bypass.

Conditions we assess

• Leg pain on walking that eases with rest (claudication)
• Cold legs, colour change, absent pulses
• A foot wound that will not heal, particularly in diabetes
• Prominent, enlarged leg veins (varicose veins)
• Swelling, pain and tightness in the legs
• Sudden leg pain, swelling and redness (possible deep vein thrombosis)
• A pulsating swelling in the abdomen (possible aortic aneurysm)
• Patients advised to have bypass surgery after angiography
• Patients found to have heart valve disease
• Vascular access (fistula) for dialysis

Procedures

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), heart valve surgery, aortic and peripheral vascular surgery, peripheral angioplasty, open and endovenous treatment of varicose veins, port catheter placement and arteriovenous fistula creation for dialysis.
